Beach Trip

Snapped these as we walked along the boardwalk with the kids. The early morning sun rise was stunning and thanks to my "anxious -to -find- treasure" 8 year old we were out early enough to enjoy it. The beach was perfect today. 50 degrees and beautiful. We even went swimming in the hotel pool!

Oregon beaches

Here in Oregon we have beautiful beaches. Its not often you go to the beach on a perfect day though. Yesterday was perfect, sunny, warm and no wind!

We stayed long enough that we were there for the ebbing of the tide. The things you find in the tide pools are wonderful, amazing and beautiful!

So the iphone has a free photography app called Instagram...I LOVE THIS! I have wanted a holga camera for a while, however they have become super popular since they each have distinct light leaks that make for unique pictures. This app allows you to take pictures and filter with a bunch of holga like filters. Be still my heart! I just took these around the house this morning and I think I am in love :)

Its been almost 6 months since I posted anything new on this blog. That probably means there are very few people out there who still look at it, but that is ok. I realized I need to do pictures that make me happy. I cant take photos like other photographers since I dont see things the way they do. This has been a huge thing for me. Its taken me about 6 months to come to terms with that. I have just now started taking photos again. I am not promising anything regular or fantastic...

So I didnt get to meet these two until they walked out of the temple! They were so much fun. Up for anything and willing to do whatever I asked. They had a very small ceremony and the picture of them alone in the parking lot to me is indicative of the two of them. As long as they have each other they will be awsome. Poor Monica had been in labor for about 21 hours by the time I went to the hospital. Things were just not progressing. She was tired. Tim was tired. The doctor came and they upped the medicine and within 3 short hours Ainsley made her apprearance. When Monica got down to pushing she wasted no time! She was amazing. Ainsley made her appearance kicking and screaming. Both grandmas missed the event by about a minute. She was adorable first thing. No smashed nose, eyes bright and wide open. She was beautiful! I love birth pictures. Thanks for letting me come and be a part of it all!

Another reason for going to Utah was the family reunion. It was so fun to catch up with those that I havent seen in years. There was lots of food, lots of talent, lots of family pictures and such, and loads of fun! Thanks everyone for being there.

Whenever I go to Grandma's house their is always a smell that reminds me of her. A soft fruity flowery kind of smell. It took a while to find that smell this time but I finally did! What reminds me the most of grandma is her love of family history. She can sit for hours and talk to you about her aunts, cousins, and parents and tell you all sorts of stories. All around her home are pictures of her parents and family. Grandma loves family, and its a good thing too since she had 11 children of her own!

So my Grandpa used to be quite famous. At least in the boxing world. He was a two or three time Golden Glove champion. This year we had a family reunion to celebrate his birthday and his life. There were a lot of things there I had never seen and it was so fun to be able to read the news clippings and see the history behind the man.

My husband and I have known Kevin forever...like he was in my nursery class in church kind of forever. It was so fun to take pictures of he and his wifes little one. This is her first and I gotta say I love the way she mothers. And by that I mean she really doesnt. Melanie is one laid back momma. She isnt paranoid about feedings and poops and scheduals, she is just so easy. I love that about her. She is so opposite of Kevin and all in the best ways. They balance each other. I love that. This weekend they are going to be sealed in the Portland LDS temple to their adorable baby and I get to be there to document that as well. It is going to be awsome! So more to come from this family soon.

My brother decided to bring his girlfriend and introduce her to the family. This is a brave move on his part since we have actually scared one of my other brothers girlfriends off. I am so glad he did though. And I am also so glad that she was game for doing pictures like 5 minutes after she got here. They were so much fun to do pictures with. They laughed, joked, and messed with each other the whole time. It made for some great shots. Thanks guys for indulging me :)

by their shoes. I see pictures of beautiful, cute, flashy, colorful shoes all the time. I love them. I think you can tell alot about a person by their shoes. I thought I would share my shoes and some of my secrets with you. This first pair is my go to shoe. I love them. I wear them all the time, rain, shine, snow, whatever. They also stink! like crazy! But I cant give them up, I just cant bring myslef to do it.

This next pair is my "dressy" pair of shoes. I know some of you are laughing up your sleves (or maybe just out loud) but I am just being honest...

These are my trust biking shoes. Now that we have started riding again, I will have these on about 3-4 times a week for hours at a time.

Ahhh, my favorite shoes. These are my running shoes. I wear them alot. Although truth be told, I havent worn them in about 3 weeks due to injury. I am about ready slip these babies back on to enjoy the open road and sweat and sun and rain!

I debated including these. I decided I had to if I was really going for honesty. See, we live on a big pile of mud. And I dont want to ruin any of my good shoes chasing after my youngest. These boots are actually not even mine, they are my hubby's. But they take me all over this hill top, fetching children and the mail and occasionally picture taking.

So there you have it...a little glimps into who I am. Did you notice I have no high heels in my shoe collection. We had a falling out long ago and I just cant seem to forgive them. So I dont own them. Perhaps, a friendly reader out there will want to turn me into What Not To Wear and I could be talked into getting some...anyone?

Astoria and Fort Stevens

So we have some really cool beach towns around here. Astoria is the town made famous because of movies like Kindergarten Cop and Goonies. Some people call it a Little San Francisco. It sits right at the mouth of the Columbia River where it runs into the ocean and the water their is amazingly rough and turbulent all the time. There are over 2000 documented shipwreaks along the coastline. It was so beautiful the other day when we took our crew of rugrats there. 60 degrees and clear blue skies. We also had fun visiting the now decomissioned Fort Stevens. It was built during the Civil War (still not sure why, but hey) and was in use through the second World War. I absolutely love Oregon!

So I am teaching a 4-H class and these are a few of the students. They were practicing with lighting and my camera and I think they did a pretty good job. I am having a great time teaching the class since I am learning so much as well. Its true when they say that a teacher learns more than the student. I am really having to dig to understand the elements and techniques so that I can affectively relay that to the kids. It's also fun for me since I get to share something that I love so much and am passionate about with others who are too!

So I told you that there are certain photographers that I just love to look at and browse all the time. Natalie Norton is a new find for me. I found her through another photographer and at a very personal and trying time in her life. She just lost her newborn baby. As I read her blog and browsed around I found her to be more than just a good photographer. She shares her talent through blog posts for a digital photography school that is free. She also has a massive amount of love for all those around her and an ability to capture the love people have for each other. Her faith amidst the raging storm around her is also captiviating, awe inspiring, and moving. So while I have never met her, and I just started browsing her life in photography, I can feel confident in stating that she is the photographer I want to be. So my computer crashed about 2 weeks ago. I am hoping that my new one will be here shortly. I am still trying to pull all the pictures off my old one. It is a slow process since the computer works when it wants and how it wants to. I do have some new stuff to post that I am really excited about and cant wait to share. What do these two pictures have in common? For me it is the history behind them. I love history. I love stories. I love photography. What I love the more than anything is when the three come together. These two photos do this for me. I know their are a multitude of stories that could be told about the two beautiful people holding hands. A symbol of their strength in togetherness. I love to see people hold hands. I know that if walls could talk this old old building in this old old town could tell some whoppers! I want my photography to say something. To mean something, to tell a story. And while I love taking pictures of people, what I really want to do is be able to capture the history of this area and this era that I live in.

I was a little worried about how cooprative 4 boys were going to be. However these guys were a lot of fun and super easy to work with. Jolie is also the mayor of Dayton and we were able to sneak in and use some of the road signs for some seriously cool pictures. These guys were up for anything (except brooms) and it made taking the pictures so fun! I love what I do!
